Primary Sport Premium
At Hugh Myddelton, we recognise the contribution of PE and sport to the health and wellbeing of our pupils. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.
Our Primary Sport Premium enables us to continually develop and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into more competitive sports competitions and training our staff to deliver and sustain quality, in-house PE sessions.
The government has provided funding of £150 million per annum for the academic years 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16 for primary school sport. The funding has being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport; money has gone directly to primary schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. Each school has received £8,000 per annum plus an extra £5 per eligible pupil each year - here at Hugh Myddelton Primary School that has meant around £10,000 a year. The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.
Recently the government have committed to funding the Primary Sport Premium up until 2020 - an investment worth £750 million.
In 2016/2017 we are spending the PE and School Sport money to meet the following objectives:
*Continue to develop range of extracurricular provision.
*Continue sports competitions participation.
*Continue to increase pupils' engagement in a wider variety of PE activities and sports.
*Invest in gymnastics and dance teaching resources, to enhance teaching of gymnastics and dance in the curriculum.
