Behaviour

At Hugh Myddelton we believe in having the highest expectations of behaviour for all our children. We are striving to ensure that the behaviour at Hugh Myddelton is outstanding, both in and out of the classroom.

The launch of the Pivotal Behaviour Curriculum in January 2016 has had a significant impact on encouraging our children to become reflective, responsible and respectful; it focuses on the restorative approach and ensures that good behaviour is the focus, not the negative.

Every member of staff at Hugh Myddelton plays an important role in supporting children to make the best choices and good behaviour is rewarded with positive praise.  The children know that they will be treated with the same respect by every adult. Staff understand the importance of children having a positive adult role model.

We aim to make our children consider the impact that their behaviour has on their learning and that of their peers. We encourage them to consider others through random acts of kindness and emphasise the importance of manners. With this in mind we have developed 'The Manners Curriculum', which has a different focus each week, such as: ‘Meeting and greeting', 'How to disagree politely’ or ‘Admitting you are wrong’.

As well as being a Pivotal School, we are also part of the Anti-Bullying Alliance (ABA), an organisation which provides resources and support to eradicate bullying in schools. Further information about the Pivotal Behaviour Curriculum can be found at www.pivotal.education.com and the ABA at www.anti-bullyingalliance.org.uk.
